Guidelines for Setting up the OCS Backup Server:

 

Purpose:  To provide a quick and reliable backup of all OCS data and services in the case of a server failure.  The secondary server will be available for a quick switch over if the need arises.

 

Step 1:   On the secondary server, install OCS PRO with the same logged in user who controls the primary server (the Administrative account which controls the service on the primary server).  You will require a proper license file.

 

Step 2:   Use the file “printmig.exe” or an alternate to install printers on the secondary server.  Printers should be exactly the same as on the primary server.

 

Step 3:   Go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services on the server and set the AAAAAA_OCSENG to manual.  Ensure the service is stopped.

 

Step 4:   On the primary server, go into the OCS Manager/Install and Configure/Advanced Settings/Set OCS Backup Time.

 

Step 5:   Provide the name of the primary server and the secondary server then select “Update”. 

 

Step 6:   Test the backup by selecting “Backup All Now”.

 

Step 7:   Determine the time you would like the backup to occur each day, we recommend selecting an hour in the middle of the night and then turn the function on.

You now have a configured backup server.
