How do I set up and synchronize a secondary server in OCS?
Answer: Note: Ensure that the following steps are performed at the server itself and not through the use of remote connections. Remote connections are known to create user permission conflicts. Step 1: Stop the service on the Primary OCS Server Step 2: Copy the two directories from the Primary OCS server to the Back up OCS server. Step 3: Re-start the service on the Primary OCS server. Step 4: Configure the folders on Back Up OCS server, using the same folder sharing permissions and NTFS security that exist on the Primary OCS server
On the Secondary Server: Step 1: Run the Windows command prompt (i.e. DOS). Change the directory to OCSPROG\CDUSR and type the following command: OCSENG.EXE -INSTALL Step 2: Close out of the command window and go to the Window's services panel. Step 3: Select the AAAAA-OCSENG service and go to properties. Set the “Startup” type to Automatic and then go to the “Log On” tab. Type in the name of the Window's account and Password that possess Administrative rights to both the Back Up server and the Primary OCS server. Click OK to exit the properties and close out of the Services Panel. Step 4: Go to OCSPROG\CDUSR and run SETUP.EXE Step 5: Click "View or Change PRIMARY/SECONDARY settings" Step 6: Click "Set This Computer to Secondary" Step 7: Enter the name of the Primary OCS Server. Click OK. Click "All done" and then "Exit" to leave the setup program. Step 8: Go to your services panel and Start the AAAAA-OCSENG service. Step 9: Run OCS Manager. Step 10: Go to UTILITIES > OPERATING PARAMETERS > ACCOUNTS > SYNCHRONIZATION SETUP Step 11: Click the “Update” button so that the adjacent field says “Yes” Step 12: From the Utilities main screen on the Back Up Server, click “Stop and Start Service” Repeat steps 9 to 12 for the Primary server. Next, we synchronize the two servers: Step 1: On the Back Up Server, go back to UTILITIES > OPERATING PARAMETERS > ACCOUNTS > SYNCHRONIZATION SETUP and click “Synchronize Secondary from Master” Step 2: Select the Primary server on the left (i.e. From) and the Back up server on the right (i.e. To). Click OK to proceed with the synchronization. After the initial synchronization, every time an account is created\edited\deleted on the Primary OCS Server, the changes will be immediately reflected on the Back up OCS Server. |
